You are warmly invited to attend the Special Lecture by Mexican Ambassador to Japan, H. E. Mr. Carlos Almada, titled “Mexico and Japan: 130 years of diplomatic Relations”, at Shimbashi Business Forum, Shimbashi, Minato-ku, Tokyo, on Wednesday 29th August 2018, starting at 15:00 hrs.
Mexico and Japan celebrate this year the first 130 years of diplomatic relations. In 1888, both countries signed the Treaty of Friendship, Trade and Navigation. It was the first equal treaty ever signed by Japan with a Western country; and the first treaty of Mexico in Asia. The treaty set the basis for mutual respect and cooperation, and it was based on a long-term vision. All these characteristics of the bilateral links have been present throughout the years.
Mexico and Japan have taken advantage of their political coincidences as well as their economic and demographic complementarities. The dynamic created from the major milestones of the bilateral relation was institutionalized under different legal frameworks. There is now a proactive interrelation among the productive, academic and public sectors from both nations. The future of the Mexico-Japan relation is promissory. Both countries will further promote this already fruitful relation in their domestic political landscapes and the changing international environments.
H.E. Ambassador Carlos Almada will provide his insight on the effects of the most important landmarks of the historical relation, an updated analysis of the major achievements of the recent years and his perspective about the upcoming years.
We look forward to seeing you there.
