Taking advantage of an official visit to Japan, JALAC was privileged to
receive and hold a round table meeting with the Parliamentary delegation of
the Republic of Chile (see the six members of the delegation below). The
delegation was accompanied by the Honorable Ambassador of Chile to Japan,
Mr. Patricio Torres. The 90-minute meeting took place at a conference room
of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Asia Office, July 29, 2015.
From our association, the following seven board members attended the
meeting: Akio Hosono (Vice-Chairman), Akiteru Ito (Vice Chairman), Akira
Kudo (Executive Director), Kotaro Horisaka (Managing Director), Mikio
Kuwayama (Managing Director), Hajime Ogawa(Director) and Hiroyuki Maekawa
(Director).
During the meeting, the delegation briefed the JALAC members on the
situation of relations with the neighbour countries, the ongoing
constitutional reform process, and the prospects for free trade agreements
such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Pacific Alliance, as
well as infrastructure investment needs in energy and the environment. In a
later discussion, with the 120th anniversary of the Japan-Chile Friendship
Treaty approaching next year, it was agreed that both countries should work
together towards a renewed relationship based on each country’s merits and
strengths, and thereby contribute to world peace and stability.
